About the Role

(Sibling of 1F0291G) Schedule: Monday-Friday, 4:30pm- 8:30pm (afterschool care, with occasional shifts from
5:30pm - 9:30pm) .

Client:
We are seeking a dedicated Direct Support Professional for a quiet and shy 13-year-old boy who is on the autism spectrum and occasionally faces behavioral challenges. He enjoys being physically active and is eager to build his socialization skills through community outings.
Job Duties:
• Provide after-school support to help the client engage in social activities in a comfortable and encouraging manner.
• Assist with community outings that promote socialization, communication skills, and physical activity.
• Support the client in focusing on completing tasks and understanding personal boundaries.
• Monitor dietary needs, specifically sensitivities to gluten and sugar.
• Foster a positive and supportive environment to help the client express himself and build confidence.
Required Skills:
• Experience working with children on the autism spectrum or with similar behavioral challenges.
• Strong communication skills to facilitate interaction and understanding, especially with quieter individuals.
• Patience and empathy in responding to the client's needs and challenges.
• Ability to implement strategies for task completion and social skills development.
• Knowledge of dietary restrictions and the ability to accommodate these needs. • Creative problem-solving skills to adapt to varying situations during outings.

Requirements

Daily Requirements: 

  • Scheduling – each DSP has a set schedule with the assigned client(s) 

  • Smart phone – use a cell phone to clock in/out for visits and complete the daily progress notes. 

  • Patient, Kind and Positive – caring for clients with disabilities requires someone who can be patient, support the client through kindness and understanding, and provide positive reinforcement throughout the shift. 

  • Driving – depending on the client, they may need to be driven to community events or appointments.  Valid license and insurance required if driving will be needed.  

  • Support – develop and maintain positive working relationships with the assigned client(s), their families and the FRR Support Manager
