About the Role

Schedule: Sundays 2pm-7pm. 22-year-old woman.

She has profound Autism and is at a high level (4-5) on the Oregon needs assessment. Looking for a female DSP. Someone with experience with high needs and/or behaviors or someone who is willing to learn about those needs would be a good fit.
The family is looking for a DSP to provide support and companionship, sit with the client, read her stories, and assist with meals and toileting. The client can verbally communicate when she needs to use the bathroom, but needs assistance undressing, wiping, and redressing. DSP can also accompany the client and her father on short community outings. The father will provide transportation. The client can walk but due to sensory issues she uses a wheelchair during community outings (not in the home).

The client has very limited communication skills, including 1–2-word phrases she can understand and express, and a flipboard with pictures to point at. She is sensitive to demands placed on her. DSP should follow her lead when possible. If she gets overstimulated or emotionally dysregulated, she can have meltdowns including self-injurious behaviors like banging her head on the wall, so the home is set up with padding to keep her safe. Frequency of behaviors vary, keeping the environment quiet and calm reduces the frequency. The client has a PBSP (Positive Behavior Support Plan) with information and protocols for behaviors that will be provided upon working with the client. She also has in-home behavior therapy weekday mornings that the DSP can attend occasionally for observation and training (paid shift).
